TO CHRISTIANVILLE SUPPORTERS
This is an open letter to all our supporters of Christianville Foundation from the board of directors.
As all of you know, Christianville was heavily damaged by an earthquake on January 12, 2010. We had no injuries or deaths of our missionaries or short term team on campus at the time of the quake. But, there were numerous injuries and deaths among the area Haitians. The medical team, with the help of everyone at Christianville, worked feverishly and continues to work night and day to aid those injured and dying.
We need your prayers and your continued support. It is going to be a long process to rebuild Christianville. With God’s guidance and your help Christianville will survive.
The following buildings were destroyed:
- High school
- College
- Eye clinic
- Eye clinic apartments
- Medical clinic’s lab and pharmacy
- New medical apartments
- New kindergarten classrooms
Buildings damaged but repairable:
- Director’s home
- Maintenance supervisor’s residence
- Guest house coordinator’s residence
- New FISH guest house
- FISH ponds
- Church
- Dental clinic
We will have a structural engineer travel to Christianville to evaluate all of our buildings and give us an estimate of damages. We estimate the damage will be between 1 and 2 million, possibly more depending on the evaluation.
Our supporters are asking about the future of Christianville and are especially concerned about students that they are supporting. We had 1200 students enrolled. We can’t give you information about individual students until we can establish communications with those students and our people on the ground.
Our board has decided to continue paying our employees as long as we have support coming in. We feel that adding a hardship of not being paid with little or no chance of finding work would just add to their misery.
Thank you for your support and prayers. We need both now more than ever. Please keep the Haitian people and Christianville in your prayers.
